Weimar Democrats
After listening to the Gonzales confirmation hearing and the congressional certification of the electoral vote yesterday, I believe we've had it as a nation. The best analogy is the Weimar Republic (Germany, early 1920's for you nonhistorians), where earnest social democrats were trying to govern a nation with the Nazis on the rise. The SD didn't recognize the 'revolutionary power' of the nazis, and tried to fight their brutality with appeals to reason. Didn't work then, won't work now The only thing to do is hunker down and wait for the collapse of this once great nation. Only if our emasculated Democratic Party wakes up will we have any chance (and it's a slim one) of getting through this alive. Look for squads of NRA members hunting tutsi liberals in a decade.

I have days like this, too. Please don't give up just yet. We don't have until 2008 for another pretty little election, though. If we can't impeach him...we're lost. Arnie will just step up to the plate and carry on with the madness....and Austria has washed their hands of Arnie, so we can't send him back.
